Track and Field - Training Information

Hurdles Discus High Jump Javelin

TRAINING DAYS

  • Mondays (5pm - 6:30pm)
  • Wednesdays (5pm - 6:30pm)

Training is suitable for all keen athletes in age groups U9 and up at our normal venue (Central Reserve - Glen Waverley).

All disciplines will be taught in a structured and fun way !


Coaches

  • Fiona Squires - Level 2 - (Sprints,Hurdles & Relays)  Fiona has extensive experience as a “Personal Trainer” and Australian representative in the Triathlon. Fiona will take “General Training” as required whilst specialising in distance events.
  • Jake Pedley - Level 1 – Jake will take Wednesday “General Training” for all events and has extensive knowledge of 400m – 1500m racing having competed (and still does) very successfully at National level in these events.
  • Tammy Stephens - Level 1 - (throws) Tammy specialises in “Throws” and is available on Sunday mornings.
  • Jess Geyer - Level 1 - (Sprints,Hurdles & Jumps)  Jess will be available for Monday “General Training” at various times during the season.
  • Lindsay Harrison - Level 2 – jumps (HJ, LJ, TJ) & hurdles, JDS HJ coach (5 years), ALAC Team Vic HJ coach (3 years), ALAC Team Vic Boys coach 2009. Training with Lindsay’s squad is by invitation and training days/times vary according to other coaching commitments.

Southern Stars (u13/u15) - Training with 'Seniors coaches'

Coaching is open to ALL Waverley Little Athletes to u15. However, as kids reach the above age group, quite often they may wish to train with our “younger Seniors” athletes and Athletics Waverley senior’s coaches. Maybe you'de like to train with “Madeleine Pape’s” former coach (Terry McGrath) - who took her to the 2008 Olympic Games in the 800m ?? Please see any of the Little Athletics coaches or speak with the senior’s coaches down at the track. They will be more than willing to discuss continuing your training with the Seniors!


Cross Country Training

Training for Cross Country is strongly encouraged. A training session for athletes aged Under 9 - Under 15 will be offered on Wednesdays, from 5 - 6 pm at Central Reserve, beginning 14th April 2010.
