Coaches

Coaching Co-ordinator: For any queries please contact Andrew Rennie

  • Jake Pedley - Level 1  - (General Training for all events). Cross Country season (Long distance training). Jake has extensive knowledge of 400m – 1500m racing having competed very successfully at National level in these events (and still does).
  • Tammy Stephens - Level 1 - (All events)
  • Lindsay Harrison - Level 2 – Jumps (HJ, LJ, TJ) & (Hurdles, Sprints & Relays), JDS HJ coach (5 years), ALAC Team Vic HJ coach (4 years), ALAC Team Vic Boys coach 2009 & 2010 Team Selector.
  • Fiona Squires - Level 2 - (Distance) & (Sprints, Hurdles & Relays).  Fiona has extensive experience as a Personal Trainer and Australian representative in the triathlon.

Smiley eating Successful Training starts with a healthy eating habit. Here is some information that may help.


Track and Field (Summer - October-March)

There are currently no Waverley organised coaching sessions being held at the track. These will start up late September or early October.

During the Track and Field  season, sessions are usually organised on

  • Mondays - General (5pm - 6:30pm)
  • Wednesdays - General (5pm - 6:30pm)
  • Sunday Throws Training (10am - 11am)- coach Tammy Stephens

Training is suitable for all keen athletes in age groups U9 and above at our normal venue (Central Reserve - Glen Waverley).

Training for the Track & Field summer season usually begins late September/early October !

All disciplines will be taught in a structured and fun way !

Please contact our Coaching Co-ordinator Andrew Rennie if you wish to request additional training in preparation for specific "schools competition"


Southern Stars (u13/u16) - Training with Seniors Coaches'

Coaching is open to ALL Waverley Little Athletes to u16. However, as kids reach the above age group, quite often they may wish to train with our Younger Seniors athletes and Athletics Waverley senior’s coaches. Maybe you'de like to train with Madeleine Pape’s former coach (Terry McGrath) - who took her to the 2008 Olympic Games in the 800m? Please the coaching co-ordinator or speak with the senior’s coaches down at the track. They will be more than willing to discuss continuing your training with the Seniors!


Squads

The squads are not general training sessions operated by Waverley even if they are run by Waverley coaches, but are privately operated and as such may limit numbers, charge a fee or apply other conditions.  All interested athletes must contact the relevant coaches listed below.

  • Development Squad training session - Sunday (include gym, plyometic, core strength sessions). Contact: Lindsay Harrison or Fiona Squires.  Note: A small fee is payable.

Cross Country Training (Winter - April-July)

Training for Cross Country is strongly encouraged. Training with Jake Pedley (see above for bio.) for athletes aged U9 and above on Wednesdays, from 4:30 - 5:30 pm at Central Reserve. (all other ages by prior arrangement) Note: Cross Country training has now finished for the season.
